About the Role
The Software Development Engineer I (SDE I) is an early-career engineering position focused on building, testing, and delivering production software as part of the client's delivery teams.
Working alongside and receiving guidance from senior engineers, you will contribute to features, backend services, and engineering tools that support enterprise AI solutions deployed in regulated environments.
This position is designed to help you establish strong engineering fundamentals, write clean and reliable code, and gain practical experience working with AWS-based production environments.
Engineers are also expected to make effective use of AI coding assistants and automation tools to improve productivity across development, testing, debugging, documentation, and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop well-defined features, services, and bug fixes with support from senior engineers.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following engineering standards and code review practices.
- Build and maintain backend services and APIs using technologies such as Python and FastAPI, with opportunities to contribute to frontend development when required.
- Develop and execute unit and integration tests and support automated testing workflows.
- Deploy and operate applications using AWS services such as ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, and CloudWatch under supervision.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and Agile ceremonies.
- Incorporate feedback effectively and continuously improve your implementation.
- Investigate and resolve technical issues across development, staging, and production environments.
- Maintain technical documentation, configurations, and operational runbooks.
- Use AI-powered development tools and automation to improve engineering efficiency and code quality.
Requirements
- 3+ years of software engineering experience, including relevant internships, academic projects, or open-source work.
- Strong programming fundamentals in at least one language such as Python, Java, TypeScript, or Go.
- Understanding of data structures, algorithms, APIs, databases, and Git.
- Exposure to cloud technologies, preferably AWS, with a basic understanding of CI/CD and software testing.
- Strong problem-solving ability and a willingness to learn.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
Nice to Have
- Internship or project experience involving software that has been released and used by real users.
- Exposure to AWS, containerization, or AI/LLM application development.
- Experience using AI tools to accelerate learning, development, debugging, or improve code quality.
- Contributions to open-source projects or personal software engineering projects.
Location & Travel
The client's customers are located across Southeast Asia, ANZ, and Japan. Travel and onsite engagement may be required depending on project needs.
Relocation support may also be considered based on business requirements.
