Engineering Manager

Position Summary:

As an Engineering Manager, you will be instrumental in shaping a high-performing engineering team and driving impactful business results. You will provide clear leadership and strategic oversight to ensure your team has the resources, tools, and environment needed to excel. Your responsibilities will encompass empowering team members, managing performance, engaging with stakeholders, and ensuring top-notch technical decisions. You will champion a culture of continuous improvement, leveraging your technical expertise and leadership skills to foster innovation and teamwork. Your ultimate responsibility is to oversee the quality and effectiveness of the software and technology produced by your team.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership and Empowerment:

  • Cultivate a shared vision of success and guide your team to achieve it.
  • Create a productive and resilient work environment that minimizes risks and single points of failure.
  • Set clear expectations for team and individual performance, actively managing morale and productivity.
  • Oversee team performance and career development, contributing to performance reviews and identifying growth opportunities.
  • Lead recruitment efforts to fill open positions, aligning hires with team needs and strategic goals.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Maintain regular communication with Product Managers, Product Designers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Proactively address emerging issues with stakeholders, offering tailored technical insights.
  • Navigate uncertainties by defining clear paths forward and seeking alignment, escalating issues as needed.
  • Align stakeholder expectations with team deliverables through effective prioritization and strategic guidance.

Technical Excellence and Solution Delivery:

  • Ensure high-quality solution delivery by balancing speed with quality oversight.
  • Guide technical decision-making, avoiding both over-engineering and under-engineering.
  • Take ownership of the software lifecycle, ensuring operational excellence and smooth transitions.
  • Influence the technical direction of interdependent teams to align with overall objectives.

Success through Data-Driven Approach:

  • Use data to develop innovative solutions for technical and delivery challenges.
  • Create reliable estimates and roadmaps to enhance predictability and transparency.

Operational Excellence:

  • Maintain high standards for operational execution, focusing on efficient and reliable processes.

  • Make informed technical decisions and trade-offs, engaging stakeholders in challenging conversations when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven track record in software engineering with experience leading successful engineering teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
  • Data-driven approach with experience leveraging data for strategic decisions.
  • Deep understanding of software development best practices, methodologies, and SDLC, particularly in fast-paced environments using cloud computing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining an inclusive and diverse team environment.
  • Proficiency in making technical decisions and trade-offs with consideration for both immediate and long-term impacts.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop team members.
  • Experience as a Scrum Master is a plus.
